$12 million dedicated to research nanoparticle safety

A consortium of agencies including the US EPA the Consumer Product Safety Commission and similar United Kingdom agencies combined to award a total of $12 million in grants to research several aspects relating to nanoparticle safety. Research will be conducted on whether products that contain nanomaterials release those nanomaterials into the environment and whether those materials are toxic. The information gathered from the studies will be used to evaluate what types of regulation are appropriate for nanomaterials. The studies will be conducted both in the US and in the UK.
