Showing that saving the environment is not always the most complicated matter, Paul Clukies of Highlands Ranch, Colorado has invented an apparatus that prevents the oil found in marine vessels from entering the surrounding water. The invention includes a floating ring surrounding the bilge pump with a petrochemical absorbing material within the ring. Mr. Clukies was awarded United States Patent 7,780,850 for his invention. Regardless of whether his invention catches on, it underscores the the fact that there are a large number of environmental concerns needing innovative solutions that do not receive the same level of attention that many other issues receive.
