The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued warnings to several companies manufacturing hand sanitizers relating to their advertising claims. The FDA is particularly worried that there is insufficient evidence to support claims that the sanitizers are effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (MRSA). The FDA also has concerns about hand sanitizers effectiveness against E.coli and H1N1 flu virus. The warning letters are an indication that the FDA views the products as violating federal law and is seeking corrective action within 15 days.
