Lead paint has been in the news recently with news that the 10% of households in Canada have elevated levels of lead dust and that yet another imported toy has lead paint on it.  Much of the lead paint dust that is in the air of the homes is dust that was generated when paint was damaged.  Although people are not continuing to use lead paint, even the lead paint that has been painted over is releasing lead when that paint is damaged.  United States Patent 7,342,057 issued to Ashok Kumar and Larry Stephenson both of Champaign, IL teaches the use of a self healing form of primer paint that releases a liquid that drys and reseals injuries to paint when the paint is damaged.  The paint works by releasing a sealant from microcapsules in the primer paint which would dry over the exposed lead paint sealing it from the environment.
