Alternatives to Dechlorane Plus

Pentabromobenzyl acrylate monomer

Pentabromobenzyl acrylate monomer

There are several compositions that have been in use for a while that are potential substitutes for dechlorane plus.  Among those compositions are chloroparafins, Pentabromobenzyl acrylate, Polybrrominated styrene, and reacted-in tetrabromobisphenol A.  Some of the other companies that participate in this sector and make other brominated flame retardant products include the members of the European Brominated Flame Retardant Industry Panel (EBFRIP),  Albemarle, Chemtura and ICL-IP.  The image is a representation of a bromobenzyl acrylate monomer as taught in the US Patent 4128709 issued in 1978 and listing Norbert Vollkommer et al. of Germany as the first named inventor.
