Australians Concerned about Underground Coal Gasification

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that tests associated with an underground coal gasification project in Australia have shown high levels of mercury in a nearby creek. A similar Australian underground coal gasification project was shut down earlier in the month due to tests showing unacceptable levels of benzene and toluene.  Government tests have have shown the hydrocarbons to be within acceptable levels for livestock consumption, a concern of some farmers in the area, but testing will continue to assure all of the concerned parties.
