Dunson biomass to fuel patent

James Dunson and others have received United States Patent 7,932,063 for a biomass to fuel invention. The biomass to fuel patent entitled “Treatment of biomass to obtain fermentable sugars” is assigned to E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company of Delaware and Alliance For Sustainable Energy LLC of Colorado. The biomass to fuel process involves contacting the biomass with an aqueous ammonia solution for as much as a day of pretreatment followed by contact with a combination of enzymes for turning the biomass into sugar. The biomass converting enzymes are hemicellulose-hydrolyzing glycosidase enzymes. In one example corncobs were treated in this type of process utilizing Z. mobilis as the biocatalyst for fermentation.
